Selbu – “the happy land”

Welcome to the home of Selbu mittens! The “happy land” of Selbu has a wide range of natural and cultural experiences on offer. Visit the Selbu Folk Museum to find out about the history of knitting in Selbu, then call in at Selbu Husflid handicrafts shop to buy the famous hand-knitted mittens. Selbu’s emigrant history and the dramatic story of Belle Gunness are told at Granby Gård. Selbu Lake boasts Vikaengene, the finest bathing beach in all Trøndelag, with several kilometres of child-friendly sand. The Nea, one of the best rivers for brown trout in northern Europe, is a must-visit for anglers, and we also have a large number of excellent fishing lakes. The area also offers excellent opportunities for hiking, with well-marked trails in the mountains and the forests, as well as prepared cross-country skiing trails, plus cycling in challenging terrain or on good forest roads. Plenty of accommodation is available, at the historic Selbusjøen Country Hotel, in cabins or in self-catering apartments at Selbutunet.
